Do you own a rubber band or simple hair tie? If so, you have access to one of the most powerful personal change tools ever invented.

Does that sound crazy? How can an item that costs less than $.10 lead to a life transformation? As with most tools, the secret lies in how you use it.

Wrist Photo Everyone has thought and behavior patterns that they’d like to change. Some people want to quit smoking. Others want to think more positively. One way to achieve a lasting change is to replace a negative behavior or thought pattern with a positive one. This takes time and mindfulness, but can be relatively simple.

If you have a thought or behavior you would like to improve here is my Guaranteed-to-Work Super-Easy 3-Step process for Total Life Improvement:

  1. Put a rubber band/hair tie/bracelet on your wrist.
  2. Pay attention to your thoughts/actions.
  3. Whenever you have a thought or start to do the action you want to improve, move your wrist decoration to your other wrist.

That’s it. Pretty simple, but very effective.

If you’re interested in the origins of this tool, it comes from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’ve used this type of therapy at times when I’ve had problems with anxiety and repetitive negative thoughts. If these types of issues are a problem in your life, I highly recommend that you seek competent medical help. In the meantime, you may benefit from the tools at Living Life to the Full, an excellent and completely free web site that teaches many CBT techniques.

If a plain old rubber band doesn’t do it for you, have a look at the snazzy bracelet that comes with your order of A Complaint Free World. You may want to read the book, too.
